Santa Maria dell'acquasanta is
a small sanctuary situated along the road leading from Marino
to the valley of the Bosco Santo.
Dug in the rock it has in front of it 34 steps. Under the high
altar there is a source of water that seems to be miraculous.
The church's structure is very simple as in origin it
was a peperino quarry. The church's entrance consists
of a narthex flanked by two Doric columns, with a moulded architrave
very projecting and supported by corbels. The façade
probably was built by Matteo Lavatti and can be dated back to
the 1819. The entrance's portal was built in the 18th
century and consists of an architrave with moulded jambs.
The altar is a great stone in which is sculpted the Madonna's
icon with the Bambino. The Madonna holds in the left hand a
bowl of water.
