The Savelli's Palace

The ancient baronial palace built over the previous structure of Annibaldi's Castle stands on the peak of the hill, where there is a wonderful panorama over the Sacco Valley and the Tyrrhenian coast. The Savelli, who took possess of the palace at the end of 14th century, transformed completely the ancient castle, realizing a palace. This palace hosted important persons such as Pius II (1458-1464) and Beatrice Cenci. In 1596 the difficult destiny of the Savelli Family determined also the ruin of the palace. Nine years later it was rented, but when it was declared unfit for use, the inhabitants stripped it.

In 1880 the municipal administration decided to restore it, and commisioned the architect Vespignani to make the works. The ancient palace was demolished and it was built the Town Hall according to the style of the 15th century .
